Mrs. Mary McFarlane, wife of George McFarlane, departed this life Sunday evening, May 28, 1899 at 6:00 p.m. Deceased was taken ill on the 5th day of April with spinal meningitis and for nearly 2 months suffered untold pain and agony until released by death. During her illness everything that skill and kind hands could do was rendered but to no avail. A professional nurse from Finlay Hospital at Dubuque was constantly at her bedside during her illness and medical skill was regularily in attendance. At times she would show slight signs of improvement and those dear to her would gain hope but only to be shattered again by more violent and severe attacks. Death, the relentless messenger named her as his own and bore her away to that beautiful land where suffering and pain is unknown. The daughter of Mrs. Daniel MacFarlane of Meekers Grove, she was born at Linden, Wisconsin, September 19, 1878 and at the time of her death was only 20 years, 8 months and 9 days. She was married to George McFarlane. The bereaved husband, parents and relatives have the sympathy of all. Funeral was held Tuesday afternoon. Services were held at M. E. Church, Rev. A. C. Halsey officiating. Pallbearers Messrs. R. W. Graham, Bert Nankivil, T. E. Mitchell, R. G. McPhall, Charles Herdt and Fred Kamp.
