DENNIS W. ELWELL
Dennis William Elwell, 89, of 221 Depot St., a retired electrician, died Wednesday at Montoe Park Nursing Home after a long illness.
Mr. Elwell was born in Glastenbury, Aug 6, 1876, son of Newman and Mary Stevens Elwell. He lived in Bennington most of his life. He was an electrical engineer and had been employed by the old Nichols Electric Co.
Survivors are his wife, the former Elizabeth Walsh; two daughters, Mrs. Bessie Stone of Framingham, Mass. and Mrs. Julia Dunlar of Bennington; three sons, Newman Elwell of Houston, Tex., Herbert Elwell of Warner, N.H., and Calvin Elwell of Bennington; 26 great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Chase of Bennington and Mrs. Mary de Long of Manchester, Conn.
Funeral services will be Friday at 1:00 pm from the Gibney, Haynes & Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. Thomas Steffens, pastor of the Second Congregational Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Village Cemetery.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be Thursday evening from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm.
