Francis 'Frank' Marion Lay was the son of William Lay and Margaret Lee.

On February 25, 1864 in Clyde, Ohio, Frank enlisted in Company A, 72nd Ohio Infantry. He was taken prisoner on June 10, 1864 in the Battle of Gunntown in Mississippi. He died from starvation and exposure at Savannah, Georgia.
