Hammons was a lifetime resident of Woodland, Washington. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with family and friends. he was a member of the Military Vehicles Collector's Club of Oregon. Hammons was retired, but was the owner of a local medical transportation company, worked for the Woodland Convalescent Cener, the U.S. Air Force and as a logger.
Hammons was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Hammons, in 2004. He is survived by companion, Phyliis Blaine; son, Brad Hammons; daughter Danita Ellerbroek; brother, Bob Hammons; and sister, Delores Davis. He also had six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
