Age 80, beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother, was embraced by the Lord and taken to his heavenly home, Saturday, October 22, 2011. He was born on August 26, 1931 to the late Narciso and Florinda Lucero, and was a life long resident and Rancher of Canon, NM. Mariano retired from the New Mexico Timber Company then devoting his time to his family ranch. He was an active member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Canon and Mayordomo of the Canon Acequia for more than 30 years. He was preceded in death by his brother, Antonio Lucero; and grandson, Matthew Lucero.

Mariano is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Pablita Lucero; his children, Mariano Lucero and wife Sally of Canon, NM, Carol Duran and husband Pete of Albuquerque, Agnes Trujillo and husband Richard of Canon, NM; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his sisters, Tere Garcia, and Julia Marquez and husband Evy both of Albuquerque; numerous, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mariano will be greatly missed by all.

Visitation will be Monday, October 24, 2011, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, in Canon, NM, where a Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, October 25, 2011, at 11:00 am also at the Church. Interment to follow at the Family Plot. Pall Bearers will be his grandsons, Mark Lucero, Michael Lucero, Gilbert Duran, Lawrence Duran, Chris Duran, Manuel Lucero, and Steven Trujillo. Honorary Bearers will be his granddaughters, Melinda Lucero, Malarie Trujillo; great-grandchildren, Nathan Castillo, Alexander Castillo, Michael Lucero, Lysa Lucero, and Audrey Duran.
