It is believed that Avery Nash was the son of Zenas and Marcia (Kendall) Nash. He is a brother to Judah Nash who married Helen Smith and is buried at Baxter Springs Cemetery, Cherokee county, Kansas. Judah is Find A Grave Memorial# 9604581.

Avery Nash was married in Hancock county, Illinois in 1842. Avery Nash's wife, Catherine C. Bowen Nash died in Mason county, Illinois in 1861. It was sometime after this event that Avery relocated to southeast Kansas.
According to the 1850 U.S. Census for Mason county, Illinois, enumerated 28 October 1850, Avery was 40 years of age, born in Massachusetts, worked as a blacksmith, and had real estate valued at $1,000.
According to the 1870 U.S. Census for Oswego township, Labette county, Kansas, enumerated 30 July 1870, Avery was age 61, born in New York, was eligible to vote, and owned real estate valued at $3,000 and personal property valued at $375. This census record did not list a wife for Avery, but did record that two of his children were still living with him: Margaret and James C. Margaret was keeping house and James C. was a farm laborer.
Avery Nash died at his home in Montana township three miles north of Oswego, Labette county, Kansas.
