1st Baron Braye,
of Eaton Bray in the County of Bedford

Son of John Braye of Eaton Bray, Bedfordshire. He was knighted in 1513 and served as the High Sheriff of Bedfordshire, Sussex and Surrey. He was created a peer on 9 August 1539.

Lord Braye and his wife Jane Halliwell, were the parents of six daughters and one son, who succeeded his father as the 2nd Lord Braye.

Edmund's eldest daughter, Anne, married the 9th Baron Cobham (of Kent). His youngest daughter, Dorothy, was first the wife of Edmund Brydges, 2nd Baron Chandos of Sudeley; and following his death, became the wife of William Knollys (later 1st Earl of Banbury).

Edmund's will was dated 18 October 1539.

Counted among his grandchildren are Sir William Brooke, 10th Baron Cobham (of Kent); Sir Edmund Verney; Sir George Hart; Giles Brydges, 3rd Baron Chandos; and William Brydges, 4th Baron Chandos.

He was also the ancestor of William Russell, 1st Duke of Bedford.
