VICKROY
Edna Floyd Vickroy was born Aug. 20, 1908 to Andrew and Harriet Ely in Appanoose County, Iowa. She married Gerald Vickroy April 9, 1938 in Chariton. Gerald passed away Aug. 27, 1983. She was also preceded in death by her parents and three sisters.
Edna is survived by her daughter, Janice Hampton of Swarthmore, Pa.; her son, Larry and wife, Sally of Nixa, Mo.; one granddaughter, Michelle and husband, Eric Emery of Paris, France; one grandson, Marshall Hampton of Seattle, Wash.; and one great-grandson.
Edna graduated from Centerville High School in 1925. In 1926 she started her teaching career in the country school at Union (Morlan). She also taught at Brushy, Teagarden, Swan, North Bend, Iconium and Rabbit Hill schools.
In 1958, Edna transferred to Russell Community School where she taught first grade until her retirement in 1974. She received her education from Iowa State Teachers College and Drake University.
She was a member of the Chariton River Baptist Church.
Edna passed away Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000 at the Wayne County Hospital in Corydon, at the age of 92.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 22, 2000 at the Fielding Funeral Home in Chariton with Pastor Larry Prosser officiating. Burial was in the Chariton Cemetery. Serving as bearers were Bud Moody, Bob Green, Glen Abrahamson and Bill Offenberger.
