Mr. Ballard was born in Brunswick County on February 24, 1933 son of the late John Dexter Ballard and Alice Hewett Ballard. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and retired from Sunny Point Military Ocean Terminal. Mr. Ballard was a faithful member of Antioch Baptist Church having served as Deacon and Sunday School Director. He also enjoyed gardening. Mr. Ballard was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth Ballard.
Survivors include two children, Gerald Ballard and wife Tammy of Bolivia, and Kim Reardon and husband Keith of Union, South Carolina; one brother, William Floyd Ballard of Wilmington; three grandchildren, Kristen, Brett, and Kira; and one great grandchild Christian.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, October 22, 2011 at Antioch Baptist Church with Reverend Monroe Cooke officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Brett Ballard, Kenny Revels, Hubert Britton, Chad Phelps, Ricky Clemmons, and Tommy Hickman. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of the church.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
