Clarence/Lee was the only child of Edna "Irene" Petree (a daughter of John W. Petree and his wife, Bessie Mae Moon) and her first husband Clarence Lee Cooper (Mr. Cooper left his wife and son when Clarence, Jr. was three years old.). Clarence was adopted by his mother's second husband, Harry Wise Richards, I and his name was changed to Lee Wise Richards (he was fifteen at the time). He was an Airman First Class in the US Air Force; he served a tour of duty in Greece. He married Alexandra "Sandy" Ann Marshall on May 27, 1962. They had 4 children; three sons and one daughter. Lee worked for Bell Laboratories. It was a Saturday, Lee had been tinkering in the garage, when he went on an errand. He died of head injuries sustained in motorcycle accident on his way home.
