Irene was the second of six children born to John W. Petree and his wife, Bessie M. Moon. Irene was married twice. She first married Mr. Clarence Lee Cooper. Irene and Mr. Cooper had one son Clarence Lee Cooper, Jr. Mr. Cooper left his wife and son, when his son was three years old. Irene married secondly to Harry W. Richards, I. He adopted Irene's son and renamed him Lee Wise Richards. Harry and Irene had two children of their own; Harry, II and Carolyn.
