Mrs. Portwood was born on Nov. 8, 1881 in Owaneco, daughter of James and Hester Echard. She married Ernest Portwood on Dec. 31, 1904, in Terre Haute, Ind. He died on July 19, 1969. She was a member of Charleston East Harrison Street Church of God.
Surviving are her daughter, Mrs. Albert (Hazel) Harrell of Charleston; several nieces and nephews.
One daughter and six sisters preceded her in death.
