Memorial services held for Pvt. Rudolph David Saturday
Solemn requiem high mass entoned at Church of the Most Holy Redeemer in this city for Sheildsville Township soldier who died from wounds in Germany.
Memorial services were held at the Church of the Most Holy Redeemer in this city at 9 o'clock last Saturday evening for Private Rudolph David who died from wounds in Germany on March 29th. A solemn requiem High Mass was entoned by the Rev. Michael Skoblik assisted by Rev. Stanley Srnec of New Prague and Rev. W.J. Skluzacek
of his city. The members of the American Legion of Le Center and this city, the local
American Legion auxiliary and a number of sailors and soldiers home on leave, attended the services in a body.
Following the church services the group gathered outside the church, where a salute was given by the firing squad, in charge of commander Edward J. Wondra, and taps were sounded by Bulgar Tuma.
Rudolph David, a son of Mathias M. and Emily Adamek David, was born on a farm
in Sheildsville township southeast of this city, on May 27th, 1916. He attended the district school near the farm home and later assisted with his father's farm until 1939, when entered employ of his brother-in-law Arnold Schleis in Montgomery Township. On March 16 1942 he was inducted into the service at Fort Snelling. He completed his basic training at Camp Roberts, California, and after serving at Camp Beale, of California, he was transferred to Camp Rucker, Alabama. After completing maneuvers in Tennessee, he came home on a furlough in January, 1944. Upon his return, he was shipped to Camp
Butner of North Carolina, where he remained until May, 1944, went he went over seas.
He landed in England on May 27th, and crossed the channel to France shortly after D-Day. He served with the Third Army through France, Belgium and Holland and in February of this year was assigned to the Ninth Army. While advancing into Germany, he was wounded on March 27th, and death followed on Thursday, March 28th.
His is survived by his sorrowing parents, Mr. & Mrs. Matt M. David of Sheildsville Township, three sisters, Miss Helen David, and Mrs. Edward (Mayme) Bilek of St. Paul, and Mrs. Arnold (Emily) Schleis of Montgomery Township, and four brothers, James C., John G. and Mike P. of Sheildsville Township and Pvt. Ben David of Camp Fannin of Texas, who have the sympathy of the community in their bereavement.
