Born on February 23, 1925 in Amsterdam, he was the son of the late Alfred J. Agard Sr. and Mary Collins Agard.
Richard received his education in the Amsterdam school system and graduated from Wilbur H. Lynch High School in 1942. He also graduated from Albany Business School and attended Siena College.
Richard was a United States Navy veteran of WW II and served as a Petty Officer 2nd Class attached to the Seabees in Saipan with special training in aviation ordinance
Richard worked in sales and was employed as manager for P&C Food Markets and for Stewart's Shops in the Capital District Region.
Richard was a parishioner and communicant of St. Mary’s Church. He was also past president of Ancient Order of Hibernians, Division 1 and the Knights of Columbus Council 209 both in Amsterdam.
Richard is survived by his wife of sixty six years, Jean Sweet Agard, four daughters, Maureen Agard Amberger of Fort Johnson, NY; Nancey Agard of Colonie, NY; Eileen A Babcock (Michael) of Landenberg, PA; and Maryerin Agard (Stephen) of Amsterdam, four sons, Michael Agard of Amsterdam, Patrick Agard of San Jose, CA; James Agard (Ashley) of Chapin, SC., and John “Jack” Agard of Albany, NY. Twelve grandchildren, Katherine and Matthew Amberger, Patricia, Brigid and Brian Mirando, Shannon and Keeleigh Babcock, Jared Thompson Houser, Keagan, Rowyn and Brexton Agard and AnnMarie Agard, one sister, Clare Felker. Nieces and nephews also survive.
Richard was also predeceased by a daughter Sheila Kathleen Agard, one brother, Alfred J. Agard Jr. and two sisters, Veronica Mack and Mary Miller.
Interment with military honors will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fort Johnson, NY.
