John Harrison, 77, of 8 Austin Street, died Tuesday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock at his home. He had been in ill health for the past year.
Mr. Harrison was born in Corcreany, County Down, North Ireland, on March 30, 1885, the son of John and Rebecca Adamson Harrison. He came to this country and Amsterdam at the age of 19, and had since made his home here.
A member of the Forest Avenue Church, Mr. Harrison was also trustee and member of the Official Board, and served for many years as president of the board. He was a life member of Artisan Lodge 84, F&AM, a member of Star Bethlehem Lodge 111, LOI, and past grand master of the Loyal Orange Institute of the State of New York. He was also a member of the Black Preceptory.
Mr. Harrison was employed at Mohawk Carpet Mills for 43 years, retiring 11 years ago. He was a member of the Quarter Century Club. He was the first school policeman appointed and served at the Woodrow Wilson School and later at McCleary School.
He is survived by his wife, the former Margaret Stratton, whom
he married on Jan. 28. 1909, three daughters, Mrs. James Thomson; Mrs. George Reld, Mrs. Ralston Reitema, this city; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
