Gwen Nielson passed away on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 after suffering a major stroke.
Born July 16, 1926 to David Franklin Adamson and Norma Delsa Johnson in American Falls, Idaho. She was the third child of six children. She graduated from North Emery High School in Huntington, Utah.
As a child, Gwen became known to family and friends as "Queenie". The nickname lasted throughout her lifetime.
Gwen married her childhood sweetheart, Dick Niel Nielson. They were married for 62 years. Together they raised two daughters, Pam and Kris in Salt Lake City. Mom delighted in spending time with Dick and their girls, grandkids and great-grandkids. When her great-grandchildren arrived, she enjoyed being referred to as "Grandma Queenie".
Gwen was a compassionate and loving wife. She took care of our Dad for many years with a devotion unsurpassed. Mom had an elegant and good-natured personality which was most endearing to those who loved her. Pam and Kris worshipped their Mom and shared many memorable times together. She was their very "best friend". She taught her daughters to be independent and self-reliant. Mom took pride in an immaculate home and always loved the latest fashion and style. She was a beautiful seamstress as well.
Gwen's passions were her family, dear friends and relatives, and of course, GOLF.
You would find Dick and Gwen on the golf course at every opportunity. They met many wonderful friends throughout their golfing years. In later years, they did not miss a televised golf tournament.
Gwen worked as secretary in the insurance, scouting and real estate fields during her career.
Gwen is survived her two daughters, Pam Steinert (Bill), Kris Ligon (Bob); three grandchildren, Marc Coulam (Sue) of Texas, Neil Steinert of New Jersey, and Sadie (Daniel) Heugly of Woods Cross, Utah along with seven great-grandchildren.
Survived by sister, Hanna (Max) Keele; brother, Jordy (Ruth) Adamson; brother and sister-in laws: Scott and Lila Nielson and Glyda (Kirk) Nielson along with many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Bill Adamson and Sanford Adamson; one sister, Anne (Speed) Emmons. In-laws: Bud and Ione Nielson, brother and sister-in-laws: Jean Adamson, Kirk Nielson, Tom and Lorraine Nielson and one great-grandson. By her request, her remains will be cremated.
A celebration of Gwen's life will be held on Tuesday, October 18th at Foothill 1st Ward located at 1933 South 21st East in Salt Lake City from 12:30 to 3:00 p.m. for family and close friends.
