SURGOINSVILLE -- Simon Ward, 85, 2910 Highway 11-W, died Sunday ( Sept. 14, 1997 ) at Indian Path Medical Center after a brief illness.
A lifelong resident of Hawkins County , Mr. Ward was a retired farmer and a member of Fudges Chapel United Methodist Church .
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eliza J. Alley Ward, his parents, Davis and Fannie Davis Ward; four sisters, Nellie Sutton, Bessie Barton; Bertha Ward and Maude Barton; and six brothers, Nap Ward, Carl Ward, Charlie Ward, James Ward, Steve Ward and Henry Ward.
Surviving are three daughters, Bertha Louise Shanks and Davis Ann Barrett both of Surgoinsville, and Mary Evelyn Stewart, Rogersville; four sons Charles Ray Ward, Thales Earl Ward and Larry Wayne Ward, all of Surgoinsville, and Jacky Lynn Ward, Rogersville; six grandchildren, Jeff Barrett, Terry Stewart, Vicki Stewart, Jennifer Ward, Lynn Ward and Chasity Ward; five great-grandchildren; a step great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at, the residence of a daughter, Louise Shanks, 327 Smyrna Road , Surgoinsvllle.
Services will be conducted ot 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fudges Chapel United Methodist Church the Rev. Charlie Eberhart, the Rev. Byron Chambers and the Rev. Allen Skelton officiating.
The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to services to lie in state.
Burial will be in the Fudges Chapel Cemetery .
Pallbearers will be Jeff Barrett, Lynn Ward, Randy Jeffers, David Ward, Oral Ward, and James (Bud) Ward. Honorary pallbearer will be Terry Stewart.
