Robert was the son of Rudolph and Wanda (Schimke). He was twelve years old and in the fifth grade. Robert did not want to go to school. He would rather have quit that spring and worked on the farm. He perished in the bombing, along with his sister, Emilie, in what was the worst attack on a school in the history of the United States, which claimed a total of 46 lives.
