Mr. J.S. Abernathy Buried Sunday

Funeral services for Mr. John S. Abernathy, 87, who died at his home on Route 2, Cartersville, early Friday evening, were conducted Sunday morning at eleven o'clock from the Macedonia church, Rev Dempsey officiating.

Interment was in the church cemetery, Owen Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

A native of Bartow County, Mr. Abernathy was born on May 16, 1852, a son of the late Mr. Bardy and Mrs. Tilda Bradshaw Abernathy, pioneer settlers who came from North Carolina many years ago to make their home.

Widely known throughout this section, Mr. Abernathy had made Bartow his home all his life. He was married 58 years ago to Miss Mary Gravitt, member of another prominent pioneer Bartow County family.

The deceased had served for several years as a Baptist minister and during this time won the love and esteem of a large throng of admirers. His staunch upright character was recognized far and wide by all who knew him and his loss is keenly felt.

Besides his wife, Mr. Abernathy is survived by four sons, Messrs. Cleveland, Elihu, Pressley and Linford; two daughters, Mrs. Tilla Guyton and Mrs. Minnie Elsey.

Friends extend tenderest sympathy to members of the bereaved family in their great loss.
