William was an attorney in Toronto, Canada and he authored many law books. As I know it, his estate was named Glenside in the Toronto township, west of the city, where Toronto Junction now is. Keele street in the Junction is named after him. William had the Carlton Race Course laid out on his property in 1857. The course and surrounding area appealed to Toronto families, who would venture over poor roads to enjoy a day in the country - picnicking, hunting, or ambling in the woods. The first running of the Queen's Plate was held at Carlton Race Course on June 27, 1860. He had 3 known children from his first marriage, William, Elizabeth and Mary. Then on 14 August, 1838, by license, William Conway Keele, of the city of Toronto, married Mary Cleaver. Mary and William had 9 children. A baby who died early, Charles, Charles Conway, Florence Jane, Mary, Arthur, Frank.

The headstone is in the shape of a church window with engraved praying hands marked at the very top IHS....stands for "In His Service" beneath reads "In Sacred Memory Of"
