Notes: THE LAMAR COUNTY ECHO, 24 Sep 1981. 'Mrs. C.E. Abshire, the former Leona Cheatham, of 2142 Bonham died Wednesday, 16 Sep 1981 in Northwest Hospital in Fort Worth. Funeral services were held Friday, 18 Sep in Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles Higgs and the Rev. Terrell Hill officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery. Mrs. Abshire was born 12 Oct 1890 in Courtland, Ala. She moved to Texas as a child and attended Lamar County schools. She and Mr. Abshire were married 3 Feb 1907. He preceded her in death on 5 Feb 1972. She was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Horace Birdsong of Longview and Mrs. D.P. Strickland of Lawton, Okla.; five sons, Charles Henry Abshire, Ralph M. Abshire, Eugene Abshire and Robert L. Abshire, all of Fort Worth, and Jack Abshire of Paris; 13 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.'
