Los Angeles Times - January 26, 1919:

FUNERAL OF FORMER CITY COUNCILMAN

Last Rites Tomorrow for the Late Josias J. Andrews

The funeral of Josias J. Andrews, former City Councilman, will be held at 10 o'clock tomorrow morning at the chapel of the White Company, followed by services in the chapel at the Rosedale Cemetery. The body will be laid to rest at Rosedale.

Mr. Andrews died from injuries received when he was struck by an automobile on the Long Beach boulevard, near Lynnwood, and for more than a week he made a valiant struggle, but succumbed last Friday. He was 76 years of age.

For many years Mr. Andrews was a man of affairs in Iowa, having conducted banks there, and having been prominently connected with educational work. For a time he held a chair in the Iowa State University, and was later the head of other important educational institutions.

When he came to California he located on a ranch at Upland, which he extensively developed. After coming to Los Angeles he engaged in the real estate business, being a member of the firm of James Barry & Co., which put upon the market the Fremont Square subdivision in the Wilshire district, and other high class properties.

Mr. Andrews was a member of the 1908 grand jury, and in 1909 was elected to the City Council. He was re-elected, serving two full terms, and during that period made a record for careful watchfulness for the interests of the taxpayers. For many years he had been a widower. He had two daughters, one of whom died five (sic) years ago. He is survived by Miss Ann Andrews, who has recently won fame as an actress, and who was with her father during his last illness.
