James was the son of James (b.1807) & Jennie (b.1811) Boyd who never immigrated to the States from Ireland. James died as the result of being hit by a train on a "long culvert" about three quarters of a mile east of Britton. He had come to the United States with three brothers:

Thomas Boyd 1827-1905 (#54113502),
David Boyd
and one sister:
Rose Anne Mellon 1829-1905 (#60915075).
According to Matilda's death certificate, James and Matilda had seven children, three living at the time of her death in 1906. They actually had eight children.
Son, Frederick J. born 7/4/1864 and died 11/11/1953 in Los Angeles Co., California. He married Celia Anna Weidenbach in 1893 and was living in Seattle, WA in 1940.
