Marilyn Elizabeth Ayer Herndon Holmes, of 5733 Hunters Chapel Road, entered into her eternal rest October 11, 2011. Mrs. Holmes was first married to the late H.W. "Stud" Herndon and is the wife of Wilbur Blanton Holmes.

Mrs. Holmes was born July 28, 1926 in Ehrhardt, SC and was a daughter of the late Hartwell Malone Ayer and Lena Zissette Ayer.

Marilyn was a former secretary for General Telephone.

She was a member of the Spring Branch Baptist Church, where she was a member of the WMU. She was an EFNEP Assistant with Clemson Extension and was a member of the 4-H Club, having went to Chicago.

Surviving are: her husband, Wilbur Blanton Homes of Bamberg; son, Henry "Hot Rod" Herndon and wife Shannon of Bamberg; and 2 grandchildren, Clint and Carey Herndon.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Linell Ayer and Arcnel Ayer; and two sisters, Irene Foley and Cloe Hicks.

Funeral services will be held at 3 pm, October 14, 2011, at Spring Branch Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
