Jincy O. Jones was born in Rowan county, North Carolina on 11/17/1807; she came with her parents to Indiana territory in 1810 when she was 3 years old and became a member of the Methodist church when she was 8 years old She married John Garten 3/3/1833, living with him 58 years, 2 months and 19 days. She died 6/2/1891, aged 83 years 6 months and 15days. Her father Ebenezer Jones was a preacher in the Methodist Church, beginning to preach in his 18th year. He enlisted under the banner of Christ at a time when his young companions were enlisting under Washington. He preached for 80 years, living under the unusual age of 100 years. Sister Garten was the youngest of 15 children, 9 brothers and 6 sisters. One of her brothers were killed by Indians in 1812, in his 19th year. Two others were preachers and two physicians. Fourteen lived to be about grown and thirteen, all grown men and women attended church at one time with their father and mother. She was the mother of 10 children, three died when quite young, seven still live 6 sons and 1 daughter. Five sons live in the state of Kansas, one son and one daughter in Indiana. Five of her sons were in the Union army and one in the confederate. All returned home at the close of the war and are still living. She read the 23rd and the 19th Psalms on Sabbath morning before she died and has been a Bible scholar since she was seven years of age.

Corp. John W. Garten, b. 1841 #116265481 and Corp. William Davis Garten,b. 1834 #22758391 were sons of Jincy Owen Jones and John W. Garten, b. 1809, #78192025. They were the other two sons of the six who served in the Civil War. William D. was teaching in Texas at the outbreak of the war and served the Confederacy. John Wesley "Wes" Garten died in a Veteran's Hospital in Anacostia Maryland and is buried there. Please link these men to their parents. I am certain of this relationship through the writings of my 2nd Great grandfather, their brother, George Washington Garten, b. 1846
