G.K. APPLETON IS A SUICIDE
Grigsby K. Appleton, 63, committed suicide at Cedar Bluff toll bridge Saturday night. Mr. Appleton was one of the two toll keepers of the bridge--- Mr. Ellis Chisolm the other.
Failing rapidly in health, Mr. Appleton became despondent. At the bridge residence, he arranged a double barrel shotgun so that his heart caught the discharge, touching trigger with a fire poker. Report of the gun was not heard from without though the thud of his body excited attention.
Medical aid determined that Appleton's death was instantaneous—falling face first on the gun.
Surviving are three brothers, Dr. Hugh L. Appleton, Gadsden; John Appleton, Collinsville, and Jerome Appleton, Tarrant City. He was a bachelor.
A large crowd attended the funeral at Garrett's cemetery by Coosa River at Centre, Sunday afternoon.
Mr. Appleton's devotion to his invalid mother, embracing many painful years, was a feature of his resolute character.
