Journalist. She was a reporter and news anchor for WTVM in Columbus, Georgia, in the late 1990s. She was known for doing the 5:00PM and 11:00PM newscasts which included her coverage of a bus accident in Russell County, Georgia, a special report on a long lasting wedding, and her many special live coverage reports from the scene. In September 1990, she competed in the Miss America Pageant representing Texas, and became 3rd runner up. In February 2003 she was named an 'American Hero' by The Today Show, for her work with cancer. Lawrence died after a battle with colon cancer on August 23, 2003, in Bedford, Texas, at age 34.
