Thomas Symes, esquire, of Barwick in Houndsborough Hundred, Somerset, died testate with a will dated November 18, 1681, which was proved January 14, 1681/82, and was buried in the chancel of his parish church. He matriculated April 21, 1657 at Christ Church, Oxford, and in 1666 was a barrister-at-law at Lincoln's Inn.

Hic subter sepultus jacet Thomas Symes, armiger, annos natus 46 [40?], a febri eruptus 22 die Novembris, anno Verbi Incarnati 1681, moestissimam reliquit viduam Merillam, filiam natu minorem Johannis Horner, de Mells, in agro Somersetetensi, equitis aurati: per quam filium unicum Johannem, et unicam filiam habuit, quorum haec infans 6e die Septembris 1671, occubuit, heic etiam sepulta: ille, una cum matre superstite monumentum hoc posuit; pientissima conjux, memoriam mariti sui pie colens, hunc etiam sui locum sepulchri statuens, cum Deo Opt. Max. visum suerit.
