Henry L Wirt, 85, Wakarusa Route 1, died at 6:30 am Monday, Jan. 21, at Elkhart General Hospital, where he was admitted on Sunday after suffering a stroke.
He was born in Quincy, Mich, Feb 12, 1888, to Charles and Alma Wirt, and married the former Marie Ellis on April 12, 1910.
Mr Wirt was an employee of the Standard Oil Co for 24 years, retiring in 1943.
Surviving with the widow are three daughters, Mrs Simon (Avenelle) Boorda, South Bend, Mrs Robert (Josephine) Bowlby, Elkhart, and Mrs Dale (Kathleen) Sherk, Bremen; a brother, Charles Tompkins, Elkhart; a half sister, Miss Winifred Wirt, Hammond; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.
Services will be held at 3 pm today, Wednesday, at the Lienhart Funeral Home with the Rev Charles Henderson of the Wakarusa Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Olive Cemetery.
