Gertrude Jean Grove, 82, of Scottsbluff died July 6, 2009 at Golden Living Center in Scottsbluff.Funeral services will be July 9, 2009 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Scottsbluff. Interment will be in East Lawn Cemetery in Minatare. Jean was born Nov. 7, 1926 on a farm outside Minatare, during a snow storm to Jim and Hilda(Rehder)Garman. She attended grade school in Minatare and the family later moved to Scottsbluff where Jean graduated from Scottsbluff in 1944. She immediately went to Denver to go to Army Nurse Corps training and then to Alliance at St. Joseph's Nursing School. During that time and before graduating from nursing school she met her soon to be husband Don Grove who had just returned from the Navy. They married July 12, 1947 in St. John's Lutheran Church in Scottsbluff. Don and Jean moved to South Dakota where Don worked for the Bell Telephone Company. Four children were born to them while in South Dakota; Marilyn, Susie, David and Donna. The family moved back to Scottsbluff in 1965. Jean worked at St. Mary's Hospital in medical records as a transcriptionist for several years before starting work for Dr. Oba. She worked as office manager of Scottsbluff Orthopedics for 28 years before retiring. Jean loved her family very much and watching her family grow, with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jean loved to travel, sew and watch the Broncos, going to several games. Jean was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and LWML and started the Quilters Circle until arthritis made her stop. Jean is survived by her children: Susie (Jim) Walter, Carthage, Mo., David (Mollie) Grove, Guernsey, Wyo., Donna Grove, Scottsbluff; seven grandchildren: Cyndi (Josh) Johnson, Shannon (Van) Vandaveer, Leslie (Jason) Banta, Chris (Kate) Walter, Tania (Travis) Ward, Anastasia Walter, and Alex Walter; and ten great grandchildren: Hunter, Conner, Riley, Emily, Abigail, Thomas, Harmony, Nora, Natalie and Rayce; sisters: Pat (Albert) Berzina, Minatare, Mary Jo (Barry) Bassett, Minatare, and Linda (Rodney) Johnson, Scottsbluff.
She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter Marilyn Grove, parents, sister Louise Jenks and grandchildren Colin Walter and Mary Catherine Walter.
