Ogden Standard Examiner August 25, 1950

LeRoy Barker, 78, lifetime resident of Pleasant View and Weber county and active member of the L. D. S. church, died at his home early today of causes incident to age. Mr. Barker was a charter student of Weber academy, now known as Weber College. He was gifted in art, having achieved success with oils and water colors in portraits and landscapes. His musical ability led him to be a charter member in the Pleasant View and Weber county bands. His active membership in the L. D. S. church included 34 years as high priest secretary. He was also Sunday school teacher and secretary of the Y. M. M. I. A. In 1930 and 1931 he served as a missionary in the central states mission under President Samuel O. Bennion and he was an active ward teacher for over 60 years.

Mr. Barker's grandfather was one of the original pioneers who entered Weber County in 1849. His Father, William Barker, is said to be the first school teacher at Mound Fort, Weber County. Family history records that one of his brothers was kidnapped by the Indians. His mother was an interpreter for the white man in transactions with the Indians. Mr. Barker moved from Mound Fort to Pleasant View at the age of 18, where he met Mary Ann Temple. Out of this union came eleven children, all of whom were married in L. D. S. temples, except one boy who died at the age of 15.

Being interested in music, Mr. and Mrs. Barker sang together each night before retiring. Before retiring Thursday night prior to his death they sang "Praise God From Whom All Blessings Flow," an informant said.

Mr. Barker is survived by 10 children. 57 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren, making a total of 105 living descendents. His survivors are: His wife and the following sons and daughters: Wilfred L. Barker, Ogden: Dr. Elbert S. Barker, Kansas City. Mo.; Clara Perry Becker, Willard; Mrs. Mary Chugg Walton, Pleasant View: Mrs. Ralph Thompson, Roy; Albert W. Barker, Peary B. Barker, .Pleasant View; Mrs. David Kunzler. Willard; Mrs. Joseph Coletti, Pleasant View; Mrs. Ezra Thompson, Roy.

The body is at the mortuary, Twenty-fourth and Adams.
