Lester J. Bailey, 59, died Wednesday, January 1, 1997, in St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a short illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Murdoch Funeral Home, Central City, by the Rev. Jonna Jensen. Burial: Mount Clark Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Today at the funeral home.
Survivors include a son, Raymond of Central City; two daughters, Mary Henderson of Central City and Tammy Bates of Oelwein: two brothers, Bob French of Garland, Texas, and Don Bailey of Cedar Rapids; and two sisters, Pauline Wicker and Barb Glassbrook, both of Garland, Texas.
Also surviving are eight grandchildren and four stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jim and Leo; and two sisters, Lavona Bailey and Margie Wells.
Born the son of Perry and Dorothy Ankeny Bailey on July 3, 1937, near Central City, he married Ruth Palmer there on July 3, 1956. They later divorced. Les worked for Larson Construction of Independence for the last 12 years and before that for Prestressed Concrete Inc., in Cedar Rapids.
