THE HOUSTON POST (Houston, Tex), Nov 27, 1919, Page 9, Col. 2:
BURIAL PERMIT GRANTED AFTER ONLY BRIEF DELAY
The burial permit for Miss Adeline Stech, who died suddenly Tuesday at her home, 4618 Wood street, was held up for a few hours Wednesday while doctors examined the body at the parlor at Settegast- Koft company. The doctors confirmed the report of Judge Leon Lusk, who held the inquest, and stated that death was from tetanus. No autopsy was held.

Funeral services were held at 5 p.m. as had been planned. Rev. J. Beigeleisen officiated and burial was in the Washington cemetery.

Miss Stech ran a splinter in her foot last Friday while cutting kindling, and Dr. Eidman, who was called to the residence, said that death, in his oppinion, was caused by tetanus. Such sudden death from this cause was rare, it was said, and members of the social service bureau asked further examination.

District Attorney Tom Branch held up the burial permit for a few hours while doctors briefly examined the body.

"They have held no autopsy and will hold none." Judge Lusk said Wednesday afternoon. "I have give no authority to do and don't intend to do so." I signed the death certificate Tuesday nigh and I don't know where they got all this hullabaloo Wednesday."
