Garvin Adams, age 66, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Friday, December 20, 2002 at the Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa after an extended illness. Garvin Eugene Adams was born March 13, 1936 in Henderson, Iowa the son of Harold and Barbara (Chapman) Adams. He was raised in the Henderson area and graduated from the Henderson High School. Garvin was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Chambers on December 20, 1954 in Henderson, Iowa. Garvin worked in construction and farmed for many years moving back to this area 28 years ago. Garvin was a member of the Laborers Local Union #1140 and Teamsters Union #581. He enjoyed going to the sale barn and also mushroom hunting.
Garvin was preceded in death by his father: Harold Adams; wife: Mary Ellen Adams on March 21, 1996; sister: Ardis; and an infant son.
Survivors include his mother: Barbara Adams of Red Oak, Iowa; children: David Adams and his wife Leanna of Nehawka, Nebraska; Dennis Adams and his wife Susan of Union, Nebraska; Dwayne Adams and his wife Christine of Emerson, Iowa; Debra Henderson and her husband LeRoy of Corning, Iowa; and Donna Yeager and her husband Kerry of Red Oak, Iowa; grandchildren: Travis Henderson, Sheila Adams, Shane Adams, Mary Kay Henderson, Ryan Adams, Heather Adams, Shane Adams, Dillon Yeager, and Nicole Yeager; 2 brothers: Marvin Adams and his wife Mary Jane of Emerson, Iowa; and Gerald Adams and his wife Mary Ann of Glenwood, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM Monday, December 23, 2002 at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Oakland, Iowa with Rev. Craig Larsen officiating. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Sunday, December 22, 2002 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the American Lung Association.
