LYMAN W. FAIR
In the death of Lyman W. Fair last Saturday Sabetha lost another fine citizen, late pioneer and splendid man. Mr. Fair was 88, nearly 89 years of age. He was born February 17, 1835, and a few weeks would have been his 89th birthday. He spent all of those 89 years as a representative of the very finest American manhood. The result is a happy, peaceful, healthful old age, adored by his wife, child and grandchildren, loved and admired by his friends and his neighbors. Always cheerful and friendly, it was a pleasure to meet and greet him. Mr. Fair had been up and around until comparatively recently and will be greatly missed by those who looked forward to seeing him day by day as he came down town.

Mr. Fair was born in Blairsville, Pennsylvania. He moved in 1856 to Lena, Illinois, and to Kansas in 1881. He was the father of four children, three dying in early childhood,. Mrs. Fred Lyon alone remaining the pride and stay of her parents. His grandchildren, the four Lyon children, Mrs. Roy Metz of Hastings, Neb., Miss Bess Lyon, Drex and Max Lyon, and his two great-grandchildren, Virginia Lee and Ruth Metz, were the friends, admirers and companions of their grandfather. Always young in spirit, lovable, gay and entertaining the companionship between the youngsters and Mr. fair was such affection as one rarely finds outside of story books.

For many years Mr. and Mrs. Fair lived on their farm three or four miles south of Sabetha which they built into one f the loveliest farm homes in the country. It was always a hospitable home too. Never were guests too unexpected, too late, or too early not to get a cordial greeting from host and hostess at the Fair farm. Happy memories of the writer are connected with chance, interesting visits on their farm.

A few years ago Mr. and Mrs. Fair left the farm in charge of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lyon and moved to Sabetha. The same beauty, hominess and content pervaded their Sabetha home. The place was soon made by them into a flower bedecked dwelling of charm and restfulness.

Mr. Fair enlisted in 1862 in the Illinois Mounted Infantry, 92nd Regiment and marched with Sherman to the sea. He was honorably discharged June 21, 1865 at Concord, North Carolina. He is a charter member of G. A. R. Post 175. He was a member of the Lutheran church in Pennsylvania and Illinois, joining the Congregational church in Sabetha in 1915.

Mr. Fair was married to Lizzie Hooper in Illinois in 1867. Their life has been one of unusual happiness. Congenial, with bright, sunny dispositions it was a pleasure to be with them and see their joy in each other. Mrs. Fair survives her husband.

He was brother of the following: J. P. Fair of Mankato, Kansas; Henry Fair of Adrian, Missouri; and Mrs. Mattie Clark of Lena, Illinois, who survive him. Milton Fair, Elizabeth Houser, John Porter and Eveline preceded him in death.

The funeral services were held in the Congregational church Tuesday, at 3 o'clock. Rev. R. A. Yoder, a friend of years standing officiating. Interment was in the Sabetha cemetery.

I am bound to them, though I cannot see their eyes or hear their voices. I honor their history. I cherish their lives. I will tell their story. I will remember them.
