John Porter Fair is the great grandson of Johannes Fahr a.k.a. John Fair (memorial# 48787525) of Caernarvon Twp, Berks County, Pennsylvania. Johannes immigrated to America on 5 Sept 1751 from Germany. John Fair/Johannes Fahr is listed in the book "Pennsylvania German Pioneers." John Porter's grandfather is John Mathias Fair b. 1770 d. 1866 who is buried in the Blairsville Cemetery with his wife Elizabeth Wolfe b. 1776 d. 1854. John Fair's memorial number is 43493618.

John Porter Fair (JP to his family) served in Co H, 67th Regiment, Illinois Infantry during the Civil War.

From the Jewell County Monitor, July 2, 1926:Entertain Old Soldiers:J. P. Fair and wife were hosts to a delightful two course dinner on Thursday of last week for the Civil War soldiers of this place, Mr. Fair's comrades. The guests included J. H. Woollen, S. A. Metz, E. L. Saunders, Wm. Walker, Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Stanfield, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Hooker, Mr. and Mrs. John Gundy, Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Nelson, Mr. and Mrs. P. O. Green, and Rev. and Mrs. Fred Blanding of the M. E. church in this city. Only Mr. Dazey, of those invited was unable to be present. Following the dinner, the afternoon was spent in visiting. It was a very happy affair, and greatly enjoyed and appreciated by the guests.
