Thomas Milton Caldwell,67, resident of 137 Hudson Ave., retired Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Co.employe, died at 10:45 p.m. Wednesday in Newark Hospital.
He had been retired as a hostler at the B&O shops since May 1959, and was admitted to the hospital Sunday for treatment preparatory for an eye operation. The eye surgery was scheduled for Wednesday and he suddenly suffered a gall bladder attack and underwent surgery for that ailment instead of the eye surgery.
An employe of the B&O 48 years, he was a member of Newark Lodge, F&AM; Teheran Grotto; Eagles, Druids; B&O Veterans Association and the B.ofL.E.. He also was a trustee of Wyoming Grange.
A resident of Newark, most of his life, he was born Dec. 8, 1891 in Shawnee, the son of John Wesley and Elizabeth (Harvey) Caldwell.. He is survived by his widow, the former Johanna (Scharf) Taylor-Caldwell; one daughter, Mrs. Olive Baker and a stepson, Charles Taylor of Newark: also seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild; one brother, Reed Caldwell of Zanesville and two sisters, Mrs. Harold Backenstos of Jacksontown and Mrs. George Wolford of Newark. A son, a brother and a sister are decesed.The Rev C.M. Danford will officiate at services Saturday. Burial in Newark Memorial Gardens
