Samuel Vinton Clark was the eldest son, and child, of Isaac S. Clark (1808-1854) and Anna Lee (1811-1899)

Samuel was married to Elizabeth T. Dickey on Dec. 20, 1860, in Gallia County, Ohio. They had at least eight (known) children. His wife, Elizabeth T. Dickey, was a daughter of Wilson Smith Dickey (1794-1860) and Elizabeth Riley (1802-1891). Elizabeth was born on Feb. 7, 1840, in Gallia County, OH., and she passed away on March 25, 1931, in Gallia County, Ohio.

There is a record of Samuel Vinton Clark's death in the book "Geo. J. Wetherholt & Sons Funeral Home Records" which was written as follows (and is available via the Gallia County, Ohio Genealogical Society):

"CLARK, Samuel Vinton 12 May 1911 79y 1m 17d R-Angola P.O., Gallia Co. B-Harrison twp., Gallia Co. F-Isaac Clark M-Anna Lee C-Clay Chapel 5,569"

In other words, he died on May 12, 1911, at the age of 79 years, one month and 17 days. He resided in the Angola Post Office area of Gallia County, Ohio. He was born in Harrison twp., Gallia County, Ohio. His father's name was Isaac Clark and his mother's name was Anna Lee. He was buried in the Clay Chapel Cemetery. His death was recorded in the 5th Volume of these funeral home records on page # 569.

From the 1882 book "History of Gallia County" by H. H. Hardesty & Co. we have the following "Personal History" of Samuel V. Clark:

"SAMUEL V. CLARK -- residing in Clay township, was born in Gallia county, Ohio, March 25, 1833. He is a son of Isaac and Annie (Lee) Clark, who were early settlers in this county, and was married in Gallia county, on December 20, 1860, to Elizabeth Dickey, born February 7, 1840, in the same county as her husband. Her parents are Wilson L. and Elizabeth (Riley) Dickey, who were also early settlers. The children of Mr. and Mrs. Clark are: Mary E., born April 28, 1861; Elma L., March 10, 1864; Annie A., July 3, 1866; Edgar M., October 21, 1868; Emit H., March 19, 1871; Cora F., August 11, 1874; Curtis, October 26, 1878; Arthur, Nov. 2, 1881 -- all reside at home. Mr. Clark has held the office of justice of the peace for several years, and holds the same office at present. He enlisted in the late war in 1865, for one year, and served about five months, when he was discharged on account of sickness and returned home; the regiment in which he served was the 193d Ohio Volunteer Infantry, in Company B. Mr. Clark is a farmer and a school-teacher. Postoffice address, Eureka, Gallia county, Ohio."

There are several factual errors in the above. First being that he was born in 1832 rather than 1833. Second, his wife's father's middle name was Smith so the initial L. for his middle name is also incorrect. Also, he enlisted to serve during the Civil War in 1863, not 1865.
