Martha R. Russell, seventy-nine years old, formerly of Eldred, PA., RD 2 and Hinsdale, NY., passed away, Monday (November 9, 1970) at the Cattaraugus County Infirmary at Machias, NY., after a long illness.
Born in Coudersport, PA., September 28, 1891, she was a daughter of Abraham and Mae Wallace Gross. At Shongo, PA., on November 29, 1906, she was married to Frank N. Russell, who died April 17, 1955.
Mrs. Russell was a member of the Coryville Evangelical United Church.
Survivors include three sons, Paul (Wanda) Russell and Merle (Helen) Russell, both of Franklinville, NY., and Donald (Carolyn) Russell of Eldred, PA.; three daughters, Mrs. Clarence (Ascha) Hall of Allegany, NY., Mrs. Robert (Peg) Griffith of Portville, NY., and Mrs. Charles (Wilma) Tarbox of Weston's Mills, NY.; 23 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren; a brother Harlan Gross, NY.; and two sisters, Mrs. Lucy Goodemote of Ludlow, PA., and Mrs. Ocie Hardy of Phoenix, AZ.
She was predeceased by three daughters; Josephine, Alice and Edna Mae; one son Frederick.
Friends will be received at the Guenther Funeral Home Inc., 51 South Main Street, Portville, today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted there Wednesday (November 11, 1970) at 1:30 p.m. by the Rev. Leo Engler, Interim pastor of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church of Weston's Mills. Burial will be in Lamphier Cemetery at Eldred.
