Isabella Sander, 88, died Sept. 26 at Hays Medical Center. Born Jan. 4, 1923, in Liebenthal, she was the daughter of Alex and Margaret (Kippes) Amrein. On Sept. 3, 1946 she married Edward Sander in Ellis. He died March 8, 1994. She was a nurses' aid at the Great Bend Manor for many years and grew up in Liebenthal. Her family moved to Ellis in 1931. In 1947 she moved to Elgin, Ill., and in 1969 moved to Great Bend. She has been a resident of Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood for the last year and a half. She enjoyed working in the yard and walking.
Mrs. Sander was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church Great Bend.
Survivors include her son, Ed Sander and wife Sandy, Great Bend; a sister, Rose Younger and husband Cletus of Great Bend; two sisters-in-law, LaVern Amrein of Elgin, Ill. and Betty Amrein of Ellis; two grandchildren, J.D. Sander and wife Nikki and Lora Johnson and husband Josh; and four great-grandchildren, Olivia Sander, Cameron Sander, Madison, Johnson and Dylan Johnson. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, John Amrein, Albert Amrein, and George Amrein; and an infant sister, Paulina Maria Amrein.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at St. Fidelis Catholic Church in Victoria. Burial will be at St. Fidelis Cemetery in Victoria. A vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday followed by a rosary at 7:45 p.m., both at Cline's Mortuary of Hays, 1919 East 22 in Hays. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home and from 1 to 2 p.m. on Friday, at St. Fidelis Church.
