Obituary-- James O. McMurry, of this city died at his home Sunday morning after an illness of only three hours. The cause of his death was acute bronchitis, and the end came suddenly. Mr. McMurry had been in poor health for a number of years, but just before his death was feeling better than for many years. He was a veteran of the Civil War, in which he served one year with the 12th Illinois Infantry.
James O. McMurry was born in Sangamon county, Illinois on April 19, 1837, and died in Lucas, Kansas, September 29, 1918.
He was married to Miss Elizabeth Pierce in Manard county, Illinois. To this union five children were born of whom only two are living, Robert L., of Parsons, Kansas and Mrs. Bertha Dixon of Des Moines, Iowa. Mr. McMurry lost his first wife in the early seventies, and was married in September 1873, to Miss Matilda Cris(s)man in Wayne county, Iowa. Seven children were born to this union, of whom three are living. Carl, of this place, Mrs. Mary Rice, of Logan county, Kansas, and John, who is now in France with the United States Army.
Mr. McMurry leaves to mourn his departure, his wife and three children and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Baptist church and interment made in Lucas cemetery.
