The funeral of the late Mrs. George Bessey was held Sunday morning at 9 o'clock at the First Baptist church, the services being conducted by Rev. J. R. Hanley in the absence of any regular Baptist church pastor. Her death occurred Friday. She has been in failing health for several years with cancer, and for the past two years she has been in a serious condition. She was always patient in her suffering and calmly awaited the end which she knew must come. Her maiden name was Debbie Anna McMurray she being born in Logan county, Ill. Mch. 28, 1365. She came with her parents to Promise City. She was married in 1881 to George O. Bessey, whom she leaves besides two sons, Edwin and Floyd. Her father is living in Kansas, also a brother Robert, and a sister, Mrs. Bertha Dixon, in Des Moines. The brother and sister were here for the funeral. Others attending from out of town were the John Crisman family, of Promise City, Charles Bessey, of Hiteman, Robert Thatcher a and family. George McMurray and family and Jim McMurray, of Bethlehem.
The deceased was a good wife and mother, a Christian woman, and one who was much loved in the home. Much sympathy exists for the bereaved husband and sons.
