Marjorie D. Adams, 89, of McHenry, died Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009, at Crystal Pines Health Care Center in Crystal Lake.

She was born June 7, 1920, in Chicago, to Nelson L. and Henrietta J. Davis.

On July 7, 1942, in Chicago, she married Vale Adams. She graduated from Falkner Girls High School in Chicago and Lake Forest College in Lake Forest, where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority.

She taught Spanish for 15 years at McHenry East High School and was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa honorary teachers organization; First United Methodist Church of McHenry since 1947, teaching Sunday school for several years; and McHenry Country Club, where she was a member of the Ladies Golf Association.

After retiring from teaching Spanish, she assisted her husband at McHenry County Club Pro Shop. Later, she volunteered for many years at Centegra Hospital.

Before suffering several TIAs, she enjoyed modeling and reading and was an avid bridge player.

Survivors include her husband of 67 years; two sons, Nelson (Lynne) of York, Pa., and Craig (Eva) of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; a sister, Dorothy (William) Devitt of York; her grandchildren, Julie Adams, Becky Alexander, Katie Adams, Bradley Adams, Alyssa Mosconi, Bridgette Adams and Brooke Adams; and her great-grandchildren, Cody Alexander, Brandy Alexander, Cassie Alexander, Justin Mosconi and Warren Mosconi.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws; a son, Gary; a brother, Thomas; and a grandson, Thomas.

The visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31, at Colonial Funeral Home, 591 Ridgeview Drive, McHenry. The visitation will continue from 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, until the 11 a.m. service at First United Methodist Church, 3717 W. Main St., McHenry. The Rev. Gary Waters will officiate. Interment will follow in Woodland Cemetery in McHenry.
