Vale Adams, 90, of McHenry, died Thursday, April 1, 2010, at Centegra Hospital – McHenry.

He was born April 21, 1919, in Coddington, Wis., to Lester and Pauline (Cling) Adams. On July 7, 1942, in Chicago, he married Marjorie J. Davis.

He graduated from Lake Forest College, Lake Forest, in 1948 and was a member of Digama Alpha Upsilon Fraternity. He was inducted into the Forester Athletic Hall of Fame at Lake Forest College in 1994, where he was a member of three conference championship golf teams and was the team captain his final two years. He also played his first two years on the varsity basketball team and was a member of the Lettermen's Club. In 2008, he was inducted into the McHenry High School Hall of Fame, where he lettered all four years for golf and basketball.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church in McHenry since 1938, where he served on many of its committees as well as taught Bible studies for several years. He was a member of the Professional Golf Association of America. He was a board member of McHenry County Club as well as a board member of the McHenry High School District No. 156 for 11 years, seven of which he was president.

He was a U.S. Air Force fighter pilot from 1942-46. He was employed by Nelson L. Davis Co. from 1948 to 1962. He was 10 times club champion at McHenry Country Club. He was employed as Head Golf Professional at McHenry County Club from 1962 to 1981. He held the course record of 65 at McHenry Country Club from 1940 to 1984. He shot his age or better 80 times. He helped start the Taylor Made Golf Co. in McHenry in 1979. He was employed by Taylor Made Golf Co., Founders Club Golf Co., and McHenry Metals Golf Co., from 1981 to 2000. He volunteered at Northern Illinois Medical Center for many years. He enjoyed playing bridge and reading.

He is survived by his sons, Nelson (Lynne) of York, Pa., and Craig (Eva) of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; his grandchildren, Julie Adams, Becky Alexander, Katie Adams, Bradley Adams, Alyssa Mosconi, Bridgett Adams and Brooks Adams; his great-grandchildren, Cody, Brandy, Cassie Alexander, Justin and Warren Mosconia; a sister-in-law, Dorothy (William) Devitt of York, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie; a son, Gary; a grandson, Thomas; a brother, Virgil; a sister, Eva Sparks; his parents; his in-laws; and a brother-in-law, Thomas Davis.

The visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, at Colonial Funeral Home, 591 Ridgeview Drive, McHenry. Service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 7, at First United Methodist Church, 3717 W. Main St., McHenry. The Rev. Gary Waters will officiate. Interment will be in Woodland Cemetery.
