OBITUARY OF GEORGE ATENHAN

George Atenhan, the eldest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Herman Atenhan, was born October 5, 1895, on a farm northwest of Deshler. On the 13th of October he was baptized in the Lutheran faith by the Rev. John Meyer of Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Kiowa, and confirmed in this church on April 14, 1909.

He was united in marriage to Sophia Maschmann on February 1, 1917, in St. Paul's Lutheran Church northwest of Deshler by the Rev. J. Dageforde. This union was blessed with four children, two sons and two daughters. One son, Harold, passed away in infancy. The family made their home on a farm northwest of Deshler until 1946 when, on account of failing health, the departed was compelled to give up farming and moved to Deshler where he lived the remaining days of his life.

On Friday morning, Nov. 4, 1955, at 7:30 o'clock the Lord in His wisdom saw fit to take him out of this life to the eternal home in heaven. He departed this life at the age of 60 years and 30 days.

He leaves to mourn his passing: his wife, Sophia; one son, Orval, of Deshler; two daughters, Gladys, Mrs. Chester Jestes, of Minden, Nebr., and Phyllis, Mrs. Bill Quinlan, of Wichita, Kans.; four grandchildren; two brothers, John and Erwin, and one sister, Emma, Mrs. Louis Magnus, all of this community; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Pastor E.C. Werner officiating. He used Psalm 90,12 as the text for his funeral sermon. The congregation sang "Who Knows When Death May Overtake Me". "Abide With Me" was sung by Adolph Vortman, Donald Miesner, C.W. Huelle, Paul Ude and Wm/ Cholcher.

Interment was made in St. Peter's Cemetery - West.

Among the out-of-town relatives and friends here for the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Fred Maschman and Joel, and Mrs. Katherine Kolling and Erwin, of Ruskin; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Jefferies, Mrs. Stanley Hardegan, and Mrs. Ella Black, of Omaha; Mr. and Mrs. Wm.
