Herman Atenhan, the son of Herman Atenhan and his wife, Henrietta, nee Kersten, was born October 23, 1870, at Luzerne, Iowa.

On January 21, 1871, he was through baptism received into communion with the Triune God.

At the age of nine years, he moved with his parents to Norton County, Kans. In 1893, he came to Nebraska, where he spent the last forty-nine years of his life.

He was instructed in the chief parts of the Christian doctrine and on November 3, 1894, was confirmed by the Rev. John Meyer in Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Kiowa.

On November 8, 1894, he was united in holy wedlock with Miss
Minnie Heinrichs, of Kiowa, by the Rev. John Meyer. This union was blessed with four children, three sons and one daughter.

For about, the last year of his life, the departed had been in failing health due to heart trouble. After two heart attacks on Wednesday night and Thursday morning of last week, Mr. Atenhan departed from this life on Thursday, March 25, at an age of 72 years, 5 months, and. 2 days.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Minnie Atenhan; three sons, George, John and Erwin, of Deshler; one daughter, Mrs. Emma Magnus, of Deshler; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Ahrens, of Deshler, and Mrs. Caroline Hoffman, of Dysart, Iowa.

He was given a Christian burial in Bethlehem Lutheran Church on Sunday afternoon, March 28, the Rev. Royden Frese officiating. Interment was made in the church cemetery.
