"The LaFayette Sun" - May 18, 1921:
Mrs. Elizabeth Cobb.
This good woman was born January 8th, 1841, and peacefully fell asleep in Jesus May 1st, 1921. She was married to David B. Cobb in March 1858, and to this union was born one child, a daughter - Miss Mollie, who is left to mourn this earthly loss. Her husband has been dead a long time, and all these years this good woman has spent a widowed life and lived for this devoted child, sisters, relatives and friends, and was one of the most highly respected and beloved old ladies of the community, in which she lived. She united with the Baptist Church when quite young and lived an orderly member until death. She suffered so much pain, but was sick several months and she bore it all in that gentle, humble, quiet way in which she always lived. When just a child the writer remembers her sweet, gentle disposition, for my first school path was almost past her door, and when the weather was bad how we enjoyed the night spent with this good old lady and Miss Mollie in their quiet, hospitable home. All during her sickness she was blessed with the constant, watchful care of this dear, devoted daughter. How faithful she was to grant every wish and need. Also her neighbors, relatives and friends were so good to help all during her illness. She never lacked for any attention that tender, loving hands could minister. And Dr. Gaines was also faithful to his part. We believe that another one of God's children has crossed over the turbulent sea of death, to reap a rich reward.
She leaves three sisters to mourn (one of them, the oldest) - Aunt Jane Hart - is 91 years of age, and a remarkable character for one of this age; Mrs. Lou Jones, of Lineville, and Mrs. Nancy Smith, of Ripville. Her body was carried to Rock Spring Church on the day following her death, and there, where she loved to worship and go so well, her casket perfectly laden with beautiful flowers, set in front of the altar in the presence of a large assembly of her relatives and friends, while Dr. Bledsoe, who had known her for so many years and a long time her pastor, paid the most beautiful tribute to her long life as a consecrated Christian I ever heard, then quietly laid to rest in mother earth to await a glorious resurrection. "Peaceful be its slumber until God bid it rise."
One who loved her,
Ina (Abernathy) Smith.
