MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Charles S. "Sam" Hilliard, 88, of Martinsburg, died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 1999, at his home.

Born Sept. 5, 1910, in Stanley, Va., he was the son of the late Jacob and Betty Cubbage Hilliard.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nina I. Gray Hilliard.

He retired from Martin Marietta.

He was a member of Bethel Assembly of God Church.

He is survived by two daughters, Helen R. Dugan of Martinsburg and Joyce A. Braithwaite of Strasburg, Va.; two sons, Douglas Gray Hilliard of Inwood, W.Va., and S. Wayne Hilliard of Kearneysville, W.Va.; a sister, Josie Dillow of Ranson, W.Va.; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Lillie Good and Susan Hemenway; and three brothers, Fred Hilliard, Paul Hilliard and David Hilliard.

Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Dan Dugan will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
