Lewis C. Leavitt, 73, 1609 Lake St., died Thursday at his home.
Mr. Leavitt was born Dec. 5, 1888, in Ogden, a son of Chauncey and Tirza H. Chase Leavitt. He was reared and educated in Ogden.
On Dec. 12, 1910, he was married to Crystabel Gampton in Brigham City.
He started working for the Southern Pacific Co. on Jan. 12, 1912, and retired as a railway conductor in 1947 due to disability. He was a lifetime member of George Washington Lodge No. 24, F&AM. He was an honorable member of Unity Lodge No. 18, F&AM, was a 32nd Degree member in Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Salt Lake, Orient of Utah. He was vice president to Scottish Rite Club of Ogden.
He was a member of Order of Railroad Conductors and Brakemen Division No. 124, and Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen, Lodge 68. He was a lifetime member of Southern Pacific Club.
Surviving are his widow ,three sons and a daughter, Howard L. Leavitt, Brent Leavitt, William Leavitt, all of Ogden; Mrs. August (Dorothy) Ahlf, Taipei, Formosa; two grandchildren, two brothers and four sisters, Henry W. Leavitt, Mrs. Rita Wood, Mrs. Wayne (Thelma) Amidan, all of Ogden; Lawerence N. Leavitt, North Hollywood, Calif.; Mrs. Blanch Carlson, Alameda, Calif.; Mrs. Hazel Knighton, Boise, Idaho.
Public Masonic funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 3 p.m. in the Aultorest Chapel of Flowers with George Washington Lodge No. 24, Tony J. Kalivas, worshipful master, officiating. Friends may call at the chapel Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 3 p.m. Entombment in Aultorest Mausoleum.
NOTE: The obituary for Lewis Chauncey Leavitt is incorrect. Brent Leavitt and William Leavitt were his grandchildren. His sons were Howard Lewis Leavitt and William Gampton Leavitt and his daughter was Dorothy Louise Leavitt Ahlf. He had two sons and one daughter.
