Helen Antoinette Trost was born in September 22, 1909 in Illinois, daughter of Otto A. Trost (1881-1941) and Emily Amelia Vaughn 1888-1964). In 1910, Helen, was 7 months old, and living in Chicago Ward 34, Illinois (Cook County) with her widowed grandfather, Edward Trost, a jewelry and watchmaker, age 53, born in Germany; her father, Otto A. Trost, an automobile machinist, age 29, born in Germany; her mother, Emily A., age 23, born in Louisiana, and her older brother, Edward, age 2, born in Illinois. The census shows that Helen's grandfather and father were naturalized in 1883.

The Florida State Census, 1867-1945, shows that in 1935, the Trost family was living in Duval County, Florida. The information on the census appears correct except for exceptions stated below. The census shows Otto A. Trost, age 54, incorrectly states his birthplace as Illinois, shows his education as grammar school, his occupation as machinist, and that he owned his own home at Inowa Street. Otto's wife, Emmie, was listed as age 40, lists her education as grammar school, her birthplace as Louisiana, and that she is wife of Otto. Edward Trost Jr., age 26, is incorrectly shown as the wife of his sister, Helen, he was born in Illinois, his education is at the highschool level, and he is a musician by occupation. Helen Trost, age 23, is incorrectly shown as wife of her brother, Edward Jr., she was born in Illinois, her education is at the highschool level, and her occupation is illegible. Edward Trost, age 76, a widower, and also father of Otto even though it is not stated, was born in Germany, and is a jewelry maker.

Helen married Walter Francis Andrews, who was born October 31, 1903, in Mena, Arkansas (Polk County), son of Frank Andrews and Ada Ann Jones.
